
Military Science and Leadership I
Class: The MS I course is the freshman level course required for cadets. This course consists of two semesters and teaches an Introduction to Leadership. Cadets will learn basic soldiering skills, the Army Values, health and fitness, effective communication, and US Military customs and courtesies. This year will facilitate a foundation to build on as they progress through the program and prepare themselves for their future careers as Army officers.
Military Science and Leadership II
Class: The MS II class is the sophomore level course required by all cadets. Cadets will continue to build a strong foundation of leadership during these two semesters. This class will cover areas such as team building, situational leadership, effective Army briefing, interpersonal communication, effective writing, Army rank and structure, duties, traditions, map reading, land navigation, and an introduction to troop leading procedures. They will be exposed to and given a familiarization to battle drills and patrolling.
Military Science and Leadership III
Class: The MS III course is required for all cadets in order to commission as an Army Officer. Completion of MS I, MS II, or Leadership Training Course is required for all cadets. In this year cadets will learn tactical leadership including patrolling and squad combat operations. They will become fluent in operations orders and troop leading procedures. They will continue to build on their land navigation and map reading skills. There will be a required 2 hour lab each week in which skills learned are put into practical application. Skills gained during this year will help them in the Leadership Development and Assessment Course in Fort Lewis, WA.
Military Science and Leadership IV
Class: The MS IV course is required for all cadets in order to commission as an Army Officer. This is the last stop before obtaining the rank of second lieutenant (2LT). Completion of MS I, MS II, and MS III is required for all cadets. In this year cadets will learn tactical leadership including patrolling and squad combat operations. They will become fluent in operations orders and troop leading procedures. They will continue to build on their land navigation and map reading skills. There will be a required 2 hour lab each week in which skills learned are put into practical application. They will gain experience from running the MS I, II, and III labs. They will help out the MS IIIs by grading them when they are in charge of pt sessions and labs, and provide helpful feed back and tips.
